Last year, we had an amazing Lá Bealtaine celebration in Batts Walks, learning about the Culture and folklore associated with this Ancient Festival, which heralds the start of Summer in Ireland. This year we hope to have an even better May Celebration and experience for our younger members of the Community. See you all Sunday 30th April @ 4.30pm. at the Ferry Gate entry
to Batts Walks. We are indebted to our Scheme Workers and Volunteers who have been busy preparing for this unique Cultural event for some time.

Event: Sunday 30 th April the youngsters in Rathmullan were all abuzz with excitement about the Fairy Walk in Batts Walks, down to the Wishing Well. A great crowd gathered enthusiastically at the Ferry Gate where stories of ancient
customs and traditions were recounted of what traditionally took place on May Day’s Eve, to ward off evil spirits and sometimes of the devilment that Fairies got the blame for. Clutching their wands & wild flowers, everyone trooped off following the specially prepared Fairy Wood Map in search of Flossie McFluff's House, Pine Dust Tree, Mullan Fairy Family Home and much more enroute to the Wishing Well, stopping here and there peeping into nooks and crannies in search of elusive fairies. Once the Wishing Well was truly garnished, the children listened attentively while Anne Friel recounted the great story of Flossie McFluff, and this was then followed by a fabulous rendition of ‘Bealtaine’ written and performed by Carol Wilson, accompanied by Sinead
Gallagher. Everyone was treated to sumptuous Fairy Cakes and the Walk concluded at the newly created Fairy Garden where the children were further captivated by the scenes and findings there. Hugh thanks to all involved with this ‘Afternoon of Fun’, hosted by the Tidy Towns Group, and special mention to Kayleigh and Daniel Fulton, Hazel Russell, and all the other volunteers both  young and older, who helped with this Annual Event. Special mention to the two Denis’s and the Scheme workers for their valuable contribution in the preparation of the Fairy Garden.
